WRITING PERSONAL HISTORIES
For my 2013 book, Positively 90: Interviews with Lively Nonagenarians, I interviewed 28 people in their 90s to describe their life stories. I also took color photographic portraits of these individuals, as seen in the above poster of faces from the project.
Since 2013 I have been hired by families to write personal histories for an older parent. The process usually takes 4-6 hours of interviewing, sometimes divided into 2 sessions, to gather enough information to truly capture a person's nature and spirit.
"In writing Positively Ninety you somehow convey with a single photo and an interview the essence of each person -- who they are, not just what they did."
-- Gayle Heiss, author of Finding the Way Home: A Compassionate Approach to Illness
